ACH Payments Up 12.2 Percent in 4th Quarter 2007
ACH Network volume increased by 12.2 percent in the 4th quarter of 2007 compared to the same quarter a year ago, rising to a total of 3,640,793,079 payments. The dollar value of these payments was $7.3 trillion, an increase of 7.6 percent over the 4th quarter figures for 2006.
Commercial ACH volume accounted for 92.7 percent of transactions, or 3,376,446,446 payments. Federal government ACH volume was 264,346,633.
The largest growth rate occurred in Point-of-Purchase (POP) transactions, increasing 55.3 percent from the 4th quarter of 2006. The largest numerical growth occurred in Internet-initiated entries (WEB), increasing by 91.6 million payments over the 4th quarter of 2006.
RETURNS
The overall Network return rate in the 4th quarter was 1.30 percent. The overall debit return rate was 2.00 percent. The unauthorized rate was 0.042 percent, which is identical to the rate for the 4th quarter of 2006. The number of unauthorized debits was 939,288, up 14.50 percent over the 4th quarter of 2006.
